Tank Shell
The Makhulu Tank is a high-quality modular steel water storage system designed for efficient transportation, rapid installation, and long-term durability.
The bolted panels are manufactured from ALUZINC , providing a lifespan up to seven times longer than standard galvanized sheets.
Panels range from 1 mm to 6 mm in thickness and are precision-punched using CNC machinery for absolute dimensional accuracy. Each panel is formed with our unique V-Lock profile and smoothly curved to the required radius, ensuring structural integrity and superior corrosion resistance.
Zincalume® tanks perform exceptionally well in coastal and high-salt-spray environments, making them ideal for demanding applications.
PVC Liner
The Makhulu Tank is fitted with an internal food-grade PVC liner, preventing stored liquid from contacting the steel shell.
The liner is manufactured using high-frequency welding, ensuring a durable, leak-proof storage solution.
Our PVC liner is non-leaching, meaning it does not release plasticisers that cause an unpleasant plastic taste in water.
It offers a life expectancy exceeding 20 years and requires no routine maintenance.
Dome Roof
Each Makhulu Tank is equipped with a lightweight, self-supporting dome roof with no internal columns, maximizing internal volume and reducing maintenance requirements.
Roof panels are manufactured from Zincalume® material and can be supplied with Colour-Bond® roof sheeting to match the site’s aesthetic requirements.
Wind Girders & Stiffeners
To ensure maximum structural stability, the Makhulu Tank incorporates wind girders and stiffeners, engineered for performance under high wind loads and seismic conditions.
The top girder secures the roof structure to the tank shell and acts as an internal anchor point for the PVC liner, with no visible external fasteners.
Fasteners
Only high-strength Grade 8.8 hot-dip galvanized bolts and nuts are used on the Makhulu Tank.
All fasteners are torqued using calibrated electric impact wrenches to ensure consistency, reliability, and long-term structural performance.
Installation
Thanks to its modular design, the Makhulu Tank can be flat-packed, loaded into standard shipping containers, and transported to any global destination.
With minimal manpower and equipment, the tank can be assembled in a short time and is ready for use immediately after installation.
Site Preparation
Only limited site preparation is needed. A level, well-compacted area is suitable for the concrete ring beam foundation.
Full concrete ring beam specifications are provided by STS Tanks to ensure optimal support and stability.
Applications
The Makhulu Tank is engineered for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications, including:
• The Aluzinc shell and galvanised roof of your tank(s) is covered by a ten (10) year warranty against structural failure from the installation date.
• The Aluzinc shell and galvanized roof are covered against corrosion for a period of ten (10) years from the installation date.
• The PVC liner is covered by a two (2) year warranty against material failure or poor workmanship on condition that a metal roof is installed on the date of installation and that the water level is retained at 100%.
• The tank is covered by a one (1) year installation warranty from date of installation.
